Renewed Creation in Christ...Renewed Commitment at OELC
It's a hopeful time of year don't you think? A brand new start to another year, the beginning of a new decade, and a renewed invitation to serve the needs of God's creation in the name of Jesus Christ.
I also thought it was a particularly hopeful statement both times I heard our congregational president say it. “I charge you all to help fill our fellowship hall for the annual meeting,” declared Eric Rogness, our soon to be outgoing president. First he challenged members of our church council at a regular monthly meeting and then he did likewise at a special congregational meeting where at least a couple of the agenda items being discussed were in anticipation of action to be taken at the upcoming annual meeting.
I say Eric's words amounted to a rather hopeful statement because, well let's face it, our fellowship hall holds an awful lot of people and annual meetings don't typically attract anything close to a fellowship hall full of members. But what if we all, council and membership, take Eric's 2020 challenge seriously? What if instead of the normal 10% of the congregational roll in attendance we each decided to bring one additional person and double the attendance. You've probably figured this one out already but yes, we’d be pretty darn close to filling the fellowship hall.
I'm on Eric's side with his invitation and expectation for our congregation. I'm hopeful for the new year, the new decade, and especially for the renewed invitation to come and be a part of your church family. Come and share your voice and vote as we renew our commitment as a congregation to continue the work we have been called to in the name of Jesus Christ, Savior of God's people.
Our Annual Meeting will be held on
Sunday, January 26th beginning at 9:15 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
Eric and I will save a chair for you.
